“Fatti con le mani” literally means “made by the hands”; but a humorous Latin double entendre may be in the mischievous mind of Dario Pegoretti as well. Nothing is sacred to International Bicycle Center’s favorite frame builder; least of all the myth that most European race bikes are made by hand much less by the hands of the man who’s name appears on the down tube.  Dario not only designs the tube sets and other materials he uses to build his frames, but he also miters the tubes and welds the frame. Having personally constructed over 40,000 frames, built made to measure bicycles for countless champions, introduced TIG welding to Europe and its peleton, it should come as no surprise that the few hundred frame which leave Pegoretti’s shop each year are infused with an experience, a knowledge and vision not to be found elsewhere.

Pegoretti Responsorium

Dario Pegoretti’s Responsorium is the culmination of decades of technical innovation in regards to bicycle frame design combined with his personal experience of producing literally tens of thousands of racing frames. The hand painted Ciavete paint scheme is unique and witness to the man’s artistry, intellect and aesthetic sensibilities, but this bicycle is first and foremost a flawless tool designed for the rigors of professional cycling. The stainless steel tubeset in custom drawn profiles produces a ride that is both responsive, nimble and powerful. The Responsorium is the lightest steel frame in the Pegoretti line-up yet loses none of the torsional rigidity and drivetrain response Dario’s bikes are famous for. An ideal bicycle for the varied terrains and conditions found in a stage race, the Responsorium is equally adept for the high mileage road cyclist. In an era where carbon fiber tubing shapes have supplanted decal transfers in branding the product used by pro cyclists, it is unlikely that a grand tour will ever be contested on a Responsorium. Nevertheless, a certain Spaniard once eschewed tradition when he cast away his lugged Pinarello in favor of an oversized Tig welded frame built by a man who has always been ahead of his time

Were one to ask Dario what frame is best suited for the majority of athletes, he would probably smile and say “Marcelo, Marcelo, Marcelo”. The ultimate racing cycle, this frame is light, responsive and daring.  Incorporating the most advanced custom drawn tubing, the Marcelo excels for all courses and athletes. A bit heavier and stiffer than the Responsorium, the Marcelo is the benchmark towards which all other bicycles are to be judged.
